Earlier this month, a high-speed chase in Wisconsin captured attention when the fleeing driver launched his car airborne, jumping over another vehicle. The footage, resembling scenes from popular action series, ‘Dukes of Hazzard,’ became viral after the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office released it.
The incident occurred on the morning of May 9. According to FOX 6, Wisconsin State Patrol stopped a car due to an active felony warrant, requesting backup afterward. When the deputy and another trooper arrived, the suspect fled, initiating the chase.
During the pursuit, the driver lost control, veered into a ditch, and ascended an embankment. This maneuver sent the car flying over another vehicle, across the road, and into a field.
The driver, identified as 44-year-old Dewayne Stokes, remained defiant after the spectacular leap. He exited the vehicle and only surrendered after being Tased by law enforcement officers.
The chase spanned four and a half miles, with Stokes covering part of the distance through the air. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after the incident concluded.
Stokes faces multiple charges, including first-degree reckless endangerment and two counts of eluding an officer. His bond is set at $25,000, and he is scheduled for a court appearance on June 24.
At the time of this event, Stokes was out on bond due to a charge of operating a vehicle without owner’s consent. He had a warrant issued for failing to appear in court. These circumstances led to his unexpected airborne escapade.
