IndyCar rookie Caio Collet experienced a dramatic crash during the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday. The incident occurred as Felix Rosenqvist and Pato O’Ward were vying for the lead.
Collet lost control in Turn 2 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. His car collided with the wall, causing the right rear to ignite. The vehicle skidded down the track and came to rest on the grass. Emergency crews quickly extinguished the flames and assisted Collet as he exited his car.
Fortunately, Collet emerged unscathed. However, race officials issued a red flag to pause the competition, allowing drivers a brief respite before the race’s final segment.
Collet, who is part of the A.J. Foyt Racing team, was making his debut at the Indy 500. He transitioned to the NTT IndyCar Series after securing second place in the Indy NXT Series in the previous year, where he won three races in 2025.
Starting the race ranked 21st with 70 points across six starts, the Brazilian driver is yet to secure a top 10 finish in his rookie season.
The 2026 Indy 500 was noteworthy, featuring more than 50 lead changes. In a gripping finale, Felix Rosenqvist claimed victory.
