Man Arrested After Shooting in New City, Chicago

A 24-year-old man was taken into custody following the critical wounding of a 52-year-old man in the New City neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side, according to local police. The incident occurred shortly after 2:10 a.m.

The two men, ages 24 and 52, were reportedly engaged in an argument outside on the 5100 block of South Emerald Avenue. As the situation escalated, the younger man allegedly drew a firearm and shot the older man in the head. The victim was transported to UChicago Medicine and is currently in critical condition.

The 24-year-old suspect has been arrested, and charges are pending against him. Police have indicated that the shooting may be related to a domestic dispute.
