Novak Djokovic, a tennis legend with over 400 Grand Slam wins and 24 major titles, recently showcased sheer joy after his first-round match victory at the French Open. Despite his decorated career, Djokovic’s exuberant reaction seemed more fitting for a player enjoying their initial major win.
In the third round, Djokovic defeated France’s unranked Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in four sets. His celebration included a lively shimmy and sashay, further highlighted by a dance in a stairwell, shared on social media by the official Roland-Garros account. In the video, Djokovic playfully challenges Aryna Sabalenka, expressing, ‘Check this out. Woo! Woo! You can’t beat that, Aryna. I challenge you.’
Sabalenka, ranked No. 1 in women’s tennis, is yet to respond to Djokovic’s challenge. Her TikTok presence, however, suggests she might soon counter his playful dare. She begins her 2026 French Open against unranked Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, aiming to add a Roland-Garros title to her Australian Open and US Open victories.
Djokovic, a three-time French Open champion, last won against Casper Ruud in 2023. His next match will see him face French player Valentin Royer in the second round. Djokovic’s excitement at Roland-Garros might also stem from avoiding a clash with Carlos Alcaraz this year. Alcaraz, sidelined due to a wrist injury, has previously bested Djokovic at the 2026 Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024.
