Gamers Crowdfund $100,000 for Player’s Release from ICE Detention

After spending an extended period in immigration detention, professional Street Fighter player Ludovic Mbock returned to compete at the Combo Breaker game festival held in Schaumburg, Illinois. The event took place on a Saturday, marking a significant moment in the gaming community.

As of early May, the weather in Maryland has been pleasantly warm. Despite the ideal conditions for wearing shorts, Mbock avoids doing so. He is conscious of the ankle monitor concealed beneath his pants. This device serves as a constant reminder of his recent past, ever since his release in March. He secured his freedom on a $4,000 bond following six weeks spent in detention.

The gaming community rallied to support Mbock during his ordeal. Their efforts culminated in raising $100,000 to assist with his release. This gesture highlights the solidarity among gamers who came together to support one of their own in a time of need.
