Uber Introduces Shared Shuttles for Soccer Fans in U.S. World Cup Host Cities

Soccer fans in the U.S. concerned about navigating challenging stadium locations after matches now have a simpler solution. Uber has launched shared shuttle services for post-match transportation in Boston, Dallas, Miami, and New York City. The service utilizes 50-seat vans, priced at $49 for trips from New Jersey to Manhattan and $45 for other cities. In Miami, service extends to pre-match travel as well.

Uber’s initiative addresses fan concerns over high travel costs linked to World Cup matches. A 17-mile round-trip train from Manhattan to New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium costs $98, as one-way tickets aren’t available. Previously, round-trip shuttle buses between Manhattan and MetLife cost $80. However, due to public outcry and efforts by New York’s Governor Kathy Hochul, these prices have dropped to $20. A portion of MetLife bus seats will be reserved for New York State residents, accommodating between 12,000 and 18,000 fans per match.

In Boston, fans will need to budget $80 for round-trip train fares to Gillette Stadium, while Dallas attendees face the absence of direct train routes to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, 15 miles from downtown, offers a combined train and bus option at around $20, while stadium parking starts at $175.

Complementary to shuttles, Uber plans to roll out an on-demand service, Uber Max. This option will use 14-seat private vans across Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and San Francisco. While details on pricing remain sparse, it’s likely to exceed Uber XL costs, according to Uber spokesman Richard Foord.

Richard Foord emphasized Uber’s commitment to provide “reliable, affordable ways to get around that complement existing public transit networks.” They aim to increase lower-cost options through shared shuttles and group rides.

Seating for Uber’s shuttles can be booked ahead of matches, with a portion of tickets available for same-day reservations. Drop-off points are still under discussion. Passengers will receive relevant details before trips.
