About a week and a half ago, LSU made headlines by adding former head coach Ed Orgeron to Lane Kiffin’s coaching staff. This move addressed a key weakness of their previous regime. The addition of Coach O promised to strengthen recruitment efforts, and the effects are already visible.
Orgeron quickly made an impact in Baton Rouge. Shortly after joining the LSU team, he secured both an in-person and official visit from Jalen Brewster, the nation’s top recruit and a five-star defensive tackle. Brewster’s recruitment had been a close contest between Texas Tech, where he was committed, and the Florida Gators. Yet, within two weeks, Orgeron’s influence positioned LSU as a leading contender.
A video from Brewster’s visit to Louisiana highlights the rapport developing between him and Orgeron. For Texas Tech fans, this is concerning as it showcases the strong connection they are building.
LSU isn’t stopping with Brewster. Five-star wide receiver Easton Royal, currently committed to Texas, visited LSU during the same weekend. Royal, hailing from New Orleans, was seen as a potential flip to the hometown Tigers, and Orgeron’s presence strengthens this possibility.
“Two of the best players in the country visiting during the same weekend is a significant achievement for any program,” a recruiter noted.
The two players visiting signify a recruitment coup. If Brewster and Royal join, LSU secures an elite 2027 recruiting class. Presently, they have five blue-chip commits, including two five-star athletes.
Successfully adding Brewster and Royal would enable Kiffin and his team to confidently shape their remaining recruitment strategy, cementing a spot in the top five on major recruiting sites. This development fulfills fears among SEC fans when Kiffin took over as LSU’s coach.
Some initially doubted the impact of hiring Orgeron, predicting LSU would dominate in talent acquisition. These early signs suggest a shift in LSU’s recruitment prowess, showcasing a potentially formidable future team.
