He wrote, “Your antipathy to the future of the show has come through loud and clear.” Pelley, in response, issued a statement accusing new management of urging him to introduce falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story. He remarked that the leadership of 60 Minutes had changed beyond recognition, compelling him to leave.
On a call to staff, Weiss emphasized the importance of trust and respect, stating that the foundation had been broken. She expressed regret over not resolving the situation with Pelley, necessitating his departure.
This incident is part of a broader restructuring at 60 Minutes under Weiss and new leadership. In a heated meeting, Pelley confronted Bilton, accusing Weiss of damaging the show.

This reshuffling follows earlier dismissals, including Tanya Simon and Sharyn Alfonsi, as CBS aligns more closely with corporate interests according to Alfonsi’s recent statement. Cecilia Vega also voiced concerns about political bias, highlighting the challenges from internal censorship and its danger to democracy.
