Chaos Unfolds as Handcuffed Suspect Seizes Dallas Police Cruiser

A routine traffic stop in Dallas turned chaotic when a handcuffed suspect allegedly took control of a police cruiser. The suspect drove off with an officer in the back seat and eventually exited the moving vehicle, according to authorities.

Body camera and dash camera footage show the suspect’s escape from his restraints and the succeeding events. The incident began around 5:35 p.m. on May 30th when officers conducted a traffic stop on South Marsalis Avenue. Stacey Huffman, age 37, was arrested and placed in the patrol car’s rear seat while handcuffed.

The footage reveals Huffman slipping his left hand out of the cuffs before hiding his hands. Officers began transporting him to jail, but Huffman attempted to unlock the rear door and removed his seatbelt. The officers then stopped on Interstate 35 at around 6:10 p.m. to further restrain him.

Soon after, as both officers exited, Huffman allegedly moved to the driver’s seat and sped away. One officer managed to enter the back seat before the car took off and deployed his Taser, but Huffman pulled the wires and the Taser was ineffective. The officer repeatedly shouted, Stop the car! as Huffman accelerated.

The officer then drew his weapon, hitting Huffman on the side of the head. In the footage, the officer is seen being thrown around the back as the cruiser swerved. Huffman opened the driver-side door, jumped out while the vehicle was moving at about 50 mph, and the officer took control of the vehicle, preventing a crash.

According to police, Huffman was in control for roughly 30 seconds, during which the car traveled approximately 1,000 feet. Huffman was rendered unconscious after jumping out and was taken back into custody. Both he and the officer were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Huffman faces multiple charges such as driving while license invalid, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and escape from custody. The case remains under investigation.
