Dr. Peter Stafford, a U.S. physician, has been released from a Berlin hospital after recovering from Ebola. He contracted the virus while on a mission in Congo with the missionary group Serge. Stafford was treated at Charité hospital in Berlin, a leading European healthcare facility.

He was evacuated for treatment on May 20. His wife, Rebekah, and their four children, who were also evacuated and quarantined, never developed symptoms. Charité hospital provided antiviral therapy and supportive medical care. Stafford’s condition improved steadily, showing a significant reduction in viral load.

“Since May 30, no virus has been detected in the daily follow-up tests,” Charité confirmed. The isolation order was lifted after fulfilling criteria such as symptom absence for more than 72 hours and negative repeated PCR tests.

The Bundibugyo ebolavirus outbreak in Congo, which has reached Uganda, is concerning for health officials. This strain is less common than the Zaire strain and lacks vaccines or treatments.
