Concerns Rise Over Senate Candidate Graham Platner Amid Allegations

Representative Ro Khanna expressed belief in the account of a woman accusing Graham Platner of physically threatening behavior. He urged Platner’s campaign not to attack her claims.

Several congressional Democrats voiced concerns about Graham Platner, presumed the Democratic Senate nominee in Maine. However, some continued to support him despite allegations of volatile and demeaning behavior towards women. The reactions over the weekend, shared through news shows and social media platforms, highlighted a divided party as the primary election approached.

The New York Times reported that three women, previously in relationships with Platner, described him as volatile. Moreover, revelations emerged on May 30 about Platner sending inappropriate messages to women outside his marriage as recently as last year.

Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, addressing the situation on Fox News, labeled the allegations as “beyond disturbing.” He stated that it should be up to Maine voters to determine the impact of these accusations. “If these allegations are true, they’re very troubling,” Warner remarked. “But I don’t know if they are true or not. I think, frankly, the people in Maine ought to decide that.”

Platner’s campaign has denied any claims of physical intimidation or altercations. A Marine Corps veteran with service in Iraq, Platner acknowledged past struggles with PTSD. He admitted to “self-medicating with alcohol” and acknowledged being imperfect in past relationships. He regards past behavioral reports as distractions from important voter issues.
