Prada and Axiom Space Reveal Lunar Mission Suit

NASA’s Artemis III mission team will soon take orbit with a fresh look. The astronauts chosen for this mission will don apparel from Prada.

This announcement came during a unique launch event hosted by the renowned Italian brand at its Manhattan SoHo store. Prada, in collaboration with Axiom Space, introduced the Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment (L.C.V.G.). This garment is designed for use under the Extravehicular Mobility Unit spacesuit (AxEMU), also a Prada and Axiom creation, for lunar missions and moonwalks.

The unveiling took place at 10:30 a.m., amid a setting combining luxury and innovation. Black-clad waiters served champagne and green juice within a space designed by Rem Koolhaas. A stage, surrounded by high-end leather items, highlighted the stylish bodysuit.

Axiom Space’s CEO, Jonathan Cirtain, noted the suit’s visual appeal during the slightly delayed presentation. The L.C.V.G. represents the second phase of Prada’s work with Axiom Space, initially started in 2023 with the EMU. It’s a form-fitting gray garment, made from a unique yarn mix that includes titanium. The design features stirrup pants and strategically arranged black tubes for cooling the body, enhancing its form and function.

This design contrasts with previous L.C.V.G. versions, which Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada’s chief marketing officer and head of sustainability, compared to comfortable pajamas. The current design resembles a sophisticated unitard, potentially drawing comparisons to a superhero outfit.
