Escalation: U.S. Launches Retaliatory Strikes Against Iran

The Iranian foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated that Iran will ensure every attack it faces is met with a response. Following U.S. strikes, Araghchi expressed via X, “Our Powerful Armed Forces will leave no attack or threat unanswered. Leave our region if you want to be safe. History of the Persian Gulf has many chapters on dire fates of intruding outsiders.”

U.S. senators received a briefing from the U.S. Central Command regarding recent incidents. Many senators concluded that an Iranian drone was responsible for striking a U.S. Apache helicopter. Sen. John Kennedy shared that the briefing suggested Iran still has military capabilities including missiles and drones, indicating a strategic demonstration of power.

The Mehr News Agency of Iran reported that locations such as Jask and Kouhe Mobarakeh suffered strikes. These actions align with tensions following the loss of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter. The helicopter went down near Oman’s coast, leading to the safe rescue of its two crewmembers. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Former President Donald Trump declared the helicopter was downed by Iran, promising a necessary retaliation. On social media, he emphasized, “the United States must respond to this attack.”

Iranian state television confirmed a projectile hit in Sirik, with other regions like Bandar Abbas and Qeshm reporting explosions and defense activity.

In direct responses, U.S. Central Command launched strikes against Iran. These operations began at 5 p.m. ET, under the directive of the U.S. Commander in Chief, as a proportional reaction to what was described as unjustified Iranian aggression.
