Rep. Susie Lee Wins Nevada’s Democratic Primary in a Competitive District

Incumbent Representative Susie Lee, a Democrat from Nevada, secured victory in the Democratic primary for Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District. Her district covers the southern part of the Las Vegas metro area and includes sparsely populated communities like Searchlight, the hometown of the late Senator Harry Reid. The district is known as a swing region and holds a Cook Political Report rating of D+1, marking it as highly competitive.

Georgetown University’s Lugar Center ranks Lee as one of the 10 most bipartisan members of Congress. In the primary, she faced challenges from James Lally, Terrill Robinson, and Brandon West. Despite her noted bipartisanship, some Republicans have criticized Lee for opposing the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which reportedly included substantial financial support for rural Nevada entities. Lee has backing from AIPAC and major corporate interests such as Boeing, according to The Center Square.

James Lally, a cardiologist, stated that Lee’s reputation as a bipartisan lawmaker is inaccurate, claiming she cannot appease what he called an “authoritarian cult.” This appears to reference Republican voters and supporters of former President Trump. Trump’s advocacy against taxes on tips resonates with many Republicans in the district, which employs numerous tipped workers due to its proximity to the Las Vegas Strip.

Terrill Robinson, a Marine Corps veteran and former staffer for Rep. Dina Titus, is also running. His campaign emphasizes the need to address the growing role of corporate money, political self-interest, and lack of transparency in government. Robinson believes Washington has stopped working for ordinary Americans.

Brandon West has shared his experiences working various jobs in the past, including positions at Carl’s Jr., the Transportation Safety Administration, and as a steward for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). He emphasizes learning through experience rather than observation and believes his diverse background helps him understand different perspectives. West’s primary goals include ending U.S. aid to Israel and dismantling ICE.

Recently, Susie Lee faced criticism for a deleted expletive-filled post against Trump when the former president announced plans to attend oral arguments in the Supreme Court case on birthright citizenship. Lee expressed frustration about attacks on the Constitution, asserting she took an oath to defend it.
