The New York Knicks achieved an incredible comeback, overturning a 29-point deficit to secure a narrow 107-106 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. This win gives the Knicks a commanding 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals.
The decisive moment occurred when OG Anunoby made a tip-in from a missed Jalen Brunson shot, sending Madison Square Garden into celebration. However, the path to victory was challenging.
Early in the game, Karl-Anthony Towns encountered foul troubles, receiving two fouls within the first 62 seconds. During his absence, the Spurs capitalized, embarking on a 41-20 run. They hit 54% of their three-pointers in the first half, allowing them to build a significant 76-49 lead by halftime.
Despite the daunting scoreline, the Knicks demonstrated their resilience. They reduced the gap to 15 by the third quarter’s end, energizing the home crowd. The fourth quarter began slowly for New York, as San Antonio extended their lead to 20. Yet, the Knicks responded with a 13-2 run, bringing them within nine points with under seven minutes left. With strategic play, they further cut the lead to four, and ultimately took the lead with just 90 seconds remaining.
“It was pandemonium,” said a fan at the game. The atmosphere in the arena was electric as the Knicks inched closer, and the fans responded enthusiastically.
San Antonio managed to reclaim the lead by hitting two free throws, leaving 30.3 seconds on the clock. But the Knicks had another plan. After the Spurs failed to execute their inbound play, the Madison Square Garden erupted in cheers as the Knicks sealed what Coach Mike Brown described as the greatest play in the franchise’s history.
The Knicks dominated the second half, outscoring the Spurs 58-30, creating an unforgettable moment for both the team and their supporters.
