Judge Denies Kennedy Center Request to Pause Ruling on Trump’s Name Removal

A judge has denied the Kennedy Center’s request to halt a previous ruling that demands the removal of President Donald Trump’s name from the building. This denial occurred on Friday.

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper had previously determined that Trump’s name was added illegally to the renowned arts facility in Washington. Cooper stated that only Congress has the authority to make changes to the Kennedy Center’s name. As a result, all references to Trump must be removed by the specified date.

A memo dated June 4 from the Kennedy Center’s Office of General Counsel advised staff that all email signatures, letterhead, and other documents should refer to the facility as “The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts” or simply “Kennedy Center.” The Kennedy Center’s website has since removed Trump’s name.

An email sent earlier in the week to members offering ticket packages for the June 28 Mark Twain Award for American Humor also excluded Trump’s name. During his second term, President Trump exerted significant influence over the venue, appointing a new board of trustees and assuming the role of chairman after replacing the previous leadership.
