Tim Allen on Maintaining a Lasting Marriage

Tim Allen attributes the longevity of his nearly 20-year marriage to Jane Hajduk to their shared sense of humor. In a discussion with Us Weekly, Allen revealed how humor has played a crucial role in overcoming challenges throughout their relationship.

“I think a sense of humor saves us so many times,” Allen remarked. The couple exchanged vows in 2006, with humor being a key element in their journey together.

The pair finds common ground, even in activities where they both struggle, like golf. Allen shared an instance where their daughter, Elizabeth, nearly a senior, became a topic of conversation during a golf outing. Jane’s humorous comment during the game was a reminder of why he cherishes her wit.

“We’re very different people,” Allen explained. “She’s a skilled athlete and encouraged me to engage in training. Being a staunch Catholic, she guided me to join her in that aspect, although I don’t consider myself Catholic.” Despite differing views, Allen believes Jane appreciates his willingness to explore new experiences.

Reflecting on their relationship, Allen says they both make compromises and have developed a solid friendship. “We’re pretty good buddies,” he said.

Their relationship began around 2001, leading to a wedding on October 7, 2006, in a private ceremony in Grand Lake, Colorado. They welcomed their daughter, Elizabeth Allen-Dick, in 2009. Tim also has another daughter, Katherine, from his previous marriage.

In 2024, Hajduk shared with People their approach to maintaining their relationship involves trying new activities. “Our new activity is stretching,” she said. This routine includes visiting a stretch lab followed by breakfast together.

Hajduk emphasized the importance of their longstanding friendships in maintaining their bond. “We talk,” she stated, with Allen agreeing, “That’s right, we talk. We do. And we’re good buddies.”
