Shania Twain recently shared insights into how she struggled with body image issues and unhealthy habits. During a discussion on aging, she admitted that her desire to remain thin led to malnutrition. Twain was candid about how menopause in 2019 forced her to reassess her relationship with her body.
Twain expressed that the shift in her body due to menopause was difficult to accept. “I was bloating and felt out of control,” she said. “Losing even five pounds became impossible.” This physical change ignited a crisis of confidence, causing her to say, “I stopped looking at myself in the mirror.” She realized the damaging nature of these feelings.
Attempting to maintain her body size, Twain engaged in rigorous exercise and cut out fats and sugars entirely. She noted, “I was overworking my body and undernourishing it.” But this experience eventually taught her self-acceptance. “Menopause taught me that some things are beyond control,” Twain said, embracing her reflection in the mirror once more.
Twain’s journey began with her breakout in country music through her 1995 album, “The Woman in Me.” Despite her success, she battled body image issues. In 2023, she disclosed to “Extra” that her discomfort with her body began at age 10. She avoided activities like going to the beach in a swimsuit.
When Twain released her hit song “You’re Still the One” in 1998, she experienced a transformative moment. “I was braless in that music video,” she recalled, noting the contrast it had with her daily life. Her willingness to step outside her comfort zone marked an evolution in her self-expression.
Throughout a career spanning more than three decades, Shania Twain has left a significant mark on both country and pop music. Often referred to as the “Queen of Country Pop,” she has sold over 100 million records worldwide. Her success came despite personal challenges, including health issues and personal setbacks.
Despite her past struggles, Twain remains enthusiastic about the future. “I’m not slowing down,” she told The Times, noting her continuous exploration of new interests. “There’s always something new to discover,” she declared with optimism.
