The late-night comedy shows recapped the excitement surrounding the New York Knicks’ victory in the NBA Finals, marking their first championship in 53 years. Host Jimmy Fallon joked, “Of course it’s the Knicks, so they won’t really show up until the second half,” highlighting the team’s reputation for dramatic comebacks. Superfan Spike Lee joined Fallon on ‘The Tonight Show’ stage to celebrate with the team in confetti-filled festivity.
Jalen Brunson, a key player from the Knicks, fulfilled a promise made in 2024 by bringing the championship trophy onto ‘The Tonight Show’ following the team’s victory against the San Antonio Spurs. Fallon remarked, “It sounds like Game 5 in San Antonio here,” acknowledging the jubilation felt by the fans.
“Let’s go, we’ve been waiting 53 years!” Spike Lee exclaimed as he welcomed the team on stage with pride.
Seth Meyers chimed in with humor saying, “The real, old-school Knick fans are still worried there might be a Game 6.” The hosts used punchlines to celebrate the Knicks’ achievement with references to broader city culture. Meyers noted that “People celebrated in the streets, singing and dancing till the wee hours,” and Jimmy Fallon added a cheeky remark about the number of crimes reported during the postgame celebration, referring to it as “relatively low key.”
Jon Stewart humorously referenced the cultural diversity of New York, mentioning, “Our mayor is Muslim, our bagels are Jewish, our Timothée’s Chalamet, Knicks in five,” referring to viral chants during the finals.
Aside from the sports excitement, Ana Gasteyer shared insights on her Tony Award nomination during an appearance on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers.’ Looking forward on Tuesday night, viewers anticipated seeing Will Ferrell discuss ‘The Hawk’ on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live.’ Additionally, Lisa Kudrow’s return in the last season of ‘The Comeback’ caught attention following its release in March.
