Mother’s Alert Stops Alleged Plot Targeting UFC Event at White House

A mother’s keen observation may have thwarted an attack planned for a UFC event at the White House. Tycen Proper, a 19-year-old from Ohio, came under investigation after his mother noticed his growing interest in weapons and secretive online communications.

Court documents reveal that Proper was involved in a scheme targeting the UFC Freedom 250 event, set for June 14 on the White House South Lawn. Authorities allege the plot included drones equipped with explosives, sniper setups, and coordinated attacks on attendees.

The situation came to light when Proper’s mother, concerned about his recent behavior, contacted authorities. One of her significant concerns arose when she saw him engaged in research about Washington, D.C., locations, receiving relevant maps and images via texts and the messaging app Discord.

When confronted, Proper allegedly mentioned being involved in ‘recon’ and ‘hit and run missions,’ which his mother interpreted as violent plans. She reported this to authorities on June 10, after noticing her son’s newfound interest in firearms and online communications with a group that claimed military ties and a Christian foundation.

His father confirmed to law enforcement that Proper planned to meet his online associates during the weekend of June 13. The family also surrendered firearms and tactical gear that Tycen had purchased, allegedly using $3,000 of his graduation savings.

This group, said to have influenced Proper, encouraged physical and tactical preparation. Following local law enforcement alerts, the FBI reviewed communications on Proper’s phone and uncovered plans involving explosive drones and shooters intended to disrupt the UFC event.

Prosecutors allege that Proper acknowledged his involvement in the planning discussions. The UFC Freedom 250 event was part of celebrations hosted by President Donald Trump for his 80th birthday.

Retired FBI agent Jason Pack emphasized the critical role family vigilance played in stopping the plot. He noted that the mother’s decision to contact authorities was pivotal.

“That’s how this got stopped,” said Pack.

Retired FBI supervisory agent Rob Chadwick applauded the mother’s bravery in an interview, highlighting the importance of awareness amid rising political violence.
