A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday night when a business jet crashed on a highway in Texas, resulting in one fatality. The Laredo Police Department reported that the aircraft was carrying six people when it crashed on Loop 20 in Laredo, Texas, shortly after 10 p.m.
According to investigator Jose Baeza, the jet also collided with a vehicle. It was not immediately confirmed whether the deceased was a passenger in the plane or someone on the ground. The conditions of the other individuals aboard the aircraft were initially unknown.
Although the authorities did not initially report any serious injuries on the ground, five police officers responding to the scene were hospitalized for smoke inhalation as per Baeza.
The highway, Loop 20, was closed following the incident and was expected to remain shut into Wednesday morning. The jet involved was a Cessna Citation Latitude twin-engine aircraft, which had taken off from Los Cabos International Airport in Mexico at 6:19 p.m.
NetJets, a company that owned the plane, confirmed in a statement that they are cooperating with the authorities regarding the crash. The reasons behind the crash as the plane approached Laredo, located approximately 140 miles southwest of San Antonio, were yet to be determined.
Footage shared on social media showed the plane lying on its side against a highway barrier, with the tail separated from the fuselage.
