Kim described her need for paternal affection, leading to her internship with Greg Baer. She recounted how she often anticipated being embraced by him for long periods. Seeking further guidance, she asked him for advice on overcoming her fears. Baer suggested she should partially disrobe while he held her, claiming the interaction was nonsexual. Kim described the experience as feeling special and parental, but realized later it was a form of grooming.
Another incident saw Kim being led to a pool house by Baer, where she was instructed to gradually remove all her clothing. He then joined her in bed, offering physical comfort while touching her. Kim later recognized she felt she had no option to refuse, fearing he would sever their relationship.
Kim began to question the community and shared her experiences with others, discovering similar stories of naked holding. One woman, Inge Jechart, shared a similar path. Inge’s troubled personal life led her to Baer where she found emotional solace. She experienced naked holding with Baer twice, feeling assured initially but later conflicted when he touched her inappropriately.
We hold our own children when they’re naked to make them feel safe,” Inge said. “For me, that’s what we were doing.
Baer insisted to Inge that such actions were rare and confidential.
The revelations led Kim to confront Baer through an email in February 2019. She criticized his actions, particularly the inappropriate touch, calling it unjustifiable. Baer responded with a denial, disputing the accounts and claiming they were fabrications.
Several other women also reached out with grievances. A British woman urged him to stop his actions, while maintaining her anonymity due to the emotional trauma involved in revisiting these events. Baer remained defiant in his replies, asserting the accusations were false and reaffirming the positive impacts others experienced through his teachings.
The police investigation in Rome, based on the women’s reports, did not lead to charges due to insufficient evidence. However, complaints were filed with local Mormon churches resulting in ecclesiastical proceedings against Baer. Veena, Penelope, and Kim pursued legal action, which concluded with settlements.
Veena, who had parted from Real Love, redefined her life by furthering her education in psychology. Her memoir, “The True Happiness Company,” offers insights into her journey with Real Love, using fictional names to describe real events. Veena’s narrative highlights not just the physical concerns, but the emotional manipulation and the alterations in life experiences catalyzed by Baer’s influence.
