In Frisco, Texas, new video footage was released showing the moments following a deadly altercation at a high school running track. The incident resulted in the conviction of Karmelo Anthony, 19, for the murder of Austin Metcalf, 17. Anthony received a 35-year prison sentence after a jury dismissed his claims of self-defense.
The evidence, released by the Collin County court, included surveillance and body camera videos. The surveillance video depicts a rainy day at the track and bleachers. A figure in a gray sweatshirt is seen emerging from behind a yellow tent, running down the steps. Despite falling, he continues running along the fencing separating the bleachers from the track. He pauses, seemingly looking back at someone, then continues.
As he makes his way around the track, another unidentified person joins him. They exchange words, hug, and are later joined by a third individual. Eventually, Anthony approaches a fence, appearing to meet a police officer. The officer places Anthony in handcuffs and leads him to a police cruiser.
Anthony is heard claiming, through tears, that he was touched first. “He put his hands on me,” he said. Officers then escorted him into the cruiser.
