Army Sergeant Sentenced for Shooting Spree at Fort Stewart

The U.S. Army Office of Special Trial Counsel announced the sentencing of Sgt. Quornelius S. Radford, 29, who engaged in a shooting at Fort Stewart, Georgia, last summer. Radford received six consecutive life sentences with the possibility of parole.

Radford was convicted by a military judge for attempting to murder five soldiers and his fiancé during the August 6 incident. Apart from life sentences, Radford will lose all pay and allowances, demote to E-1, and receive a dishonorable discharge. He will be confined at the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

Major Matthew Fields, an OSTC prosecutor, emphasized the severe breach of trust in this case, highlighting that soldiers should fear the enemy, not fellow comrades. Fields stated, “Sgt. Radford turned his weapon on his own unit, shooting fellow Soldiers, including members of his leadership.”

Ryan O’Connor, an Army CID special agent, noted that Radford’s conviction underscores the Army’s dedication to service member safety and community security.

Previously, Fox News Digital reported that Radford, an automated logistics sergeant from Jacksonville, Florida, had no prior disciplinary issues, although a concealed DUI arrest in May 2025 was noted in local court records.

The shooting started after an argument with Radford’s fiancé led him to Fort Stewart. Concerned about Radford’s state of mind, his fiancé followed him. In a parking lot at the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area, Radford shot his fiancé with a personal firearm.

Radford then entered the unit’s offices and shot four soldiers, attempting but failing to shoot a fifth. Soldiers subdued Radford until law enforcement arrived.

Brig. Gen. John Lubas commended the quick actions of soldiers who intervened, preventing further harm. The soldiers provided immediate first aid until emergency services arrived.

All victims survived but testified about the severe trauma experienced. They urged the military judge to impose the maximum sentence on Radford.
