DOJ Lawsuit Against UCLA
The Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against UCLA, accusing the university of failing to protect Jewish and Israeli students from discrimination and violence. The allegations focus on a protest in 2024 where students were reportedly beaten and pepper-sprayed.
Controversy Over Apology at Massachusetts School
A middle school principal in Massachusetts is facing backlash after apologizing to students who felt “unseen” during a Holocaust education lesson. A screenshot of the apology email was shared by the organization StopAntisemitism, leading to widespread criticism.
“Some of you felt like your own history, your identity, or your community was left out or erased,” wrote Dr. Johnny Cole, Principal of Diamond Middle School.
Cole’s email acknowledged the concerns of some students and families who felt the lesson failed to address all identities present in the school.
Criticism of the Apology
The principal’s apology faced criticism for its approach to Holocaust education. Critics argue that Holocaust education is vital for understanding antisemitism and its manifestations in modern society. StopAntisemitism commented on the importance of maintaining factual history without diluting its significance.
“Speaking about the Nazi genocide that murdered 6 million Jews should not require an apology,” said Hen Mazzig, an Israeli activist.
The organization stressed the need for educational leaders to uphold their responsibility to historical accuracy.
Related Incident Involving Student Attire
Dr. Cole was also involved in an incident where a student was asked to remove a sweatshirt with the slogan “Punch Nazis.” The student, Teagan Murtagh, expressed her disapproval in a local publication, highlighting her great-grandmother’s survival of the Holocaust and her commitment to prevent history from repeating.
Murtagh shared her disappointment over meetings with Cole that, in her view, did not resolve the issue.
Rachel Wolf, a media and culture reporter for Fox News Digital, contributed to the coverage of these incidents.
