Canada’s Victory at the 2026 World Cup
On Sunday, Canada entered the Round of 32 match as a favorite against South Africa, aiming to advance to the Round of 16. However, the match proved more challenging than expected, with both teams locked in a 0-0 stalemate at second-half stoppage time. “Canada players celebrate after winning their 2026 World Cup Round of 32 match against South Africa at Los Angeles Stadium.”
This marks Canada’s first-ever knockout-match win at a World Cup. Serving as one of the three co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup along with the United States and Mexico, Canada played its group matches at home but achieved this victory at Los Angeles Stadium in California.
Upcoming Matches and Expectations
Canada, after a loss to Switzerland, secured the second position in Group B. Their next match will be against the winner of the Netherlands vs. Morocco on July 4 in Houston.
In parallel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, having placed third in Group B, will face the United States on July 1 at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Unlike Canada, the United States topped their group. Team USA is heavily favored (-700 at DraftKings) against Bosnia and Herzegovina and is expected to advance to the Round of 16. If victorious, they will meet the winner of Belgium vs. Senegal on July 6.
Canada has overcome its initial challenge. Now, the United States aims to join its North American co-hosts in the Round of 16.
