Twin Earthquakes in Venezuela: Tragic Loss for Soccer Star Lucas Trejo as Wife and Two Children Perish

The recent twin earthquakes in Venezuela have led to the tragic death of Lucas Trejo’s family, an Argentine soccer star. His wife, Yanina, and children, Aaron and Ainhoa, were killed in the disaster, his team announced on Sunday. Trejo tirelessly searched through the wreckage for three days until rescue teams recovered their bodies.

Club Sport Maritimo La Guaira, Trejo’s team, expressed deep sorrow on social media, sharing a photo of the family and offering condolences, wishing peace for their souls and comfort for Trejo and his loved ones.

Trejo, aged 38, was in Caracas for training when the earthquakes hit, measuring magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5. His immediate return to La Guaira, the worst-hit area, revealed devastating destruction, with nothing left of the building where his family lived, as described by his brother-in-law, Ricardo Ardiles.

The earthquakes have resulted in nearly 1,500 deaths and incomprehensible numbers of missing persons, as reported by Venezuelan authorities. Among the efforts to find survivors, a U.S. rescue team successfully saved a mother and her 9-month-old baby from the rubble of a collapsed building.

“He deserves to live and have a future,” said Diana Sandrano, a local woman searching for her missing brother in La Guaira, pledging to continue her search despite the dire situation.

Acting President Delcy Rodríguez assured a thorough government response to the disaster, although reports suggest insufficient state rescue teams in severely affected areas. About 200 people have been rescued, according to the Caracas government, yet around 51,000 individuals remain unaccounted for.
