Federal Authorities Break Up Alleged Gun Trafficking Ring Linking Georgia to Chicago Gangs

Federal authorities have dismantled an alleged firearms trafficking operation accused of supplying weapons from Georgia to Chicago street gangs. This operation, according to prosecutors, saw dozens of guns being funneled, some of which were later linked to violent crimes, including a juvenile murder.

A 23-count federal indictment unsealed recently in the Middle District of Georgia has charged five individuals as part of the investigation led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The charges include conspiracy involving firearms trafficking, machineguns, and drug trafficking.

The primary defendants, Anthony Edmond and Rafael Enriquez, face the most serious charges. If convicted, they face a maximum sentence of life in prison. Three other individuals also face federal firearms conspiracy charges.

Court documents suggest that Edmond is a member of the Chicago-based Black Disciples gang and has ties to the Conservative Vice Lords. Prosecutors allege Edmond, known as “Chapo,” facilitated straw purchases of firearms from Georgia gun stores. These weapons were then transported and distributed to gang members in Chicago.

Investigators claim that Edmond purchased at least 22 firearms over ten months between 2020 and 2021. Some of these were reportedly converted into fully automatic weapons and used in various violent crimes. It is alleged Edmond purchased ammunition, extended magazines, and drum magazines, testing them before handing them over.

Authorities report that Edmond made several trips from Georgia to Illinois to deliver these illicit weapons. Law enforcement claims to have recovered 20 firearms allegedly purchased by Edmond across three states between 2021 and 2026.

In 2021, a Glock pistol recovered by Chicago Police was linked to three violent crimes following forensic testing. Prosecutors claim that this pistol, allegedly purchased by Edmond in Georgia just 36 days prior, was used in a Chicago murder and in the shooting of a rival gang member.
