Social Media Activism: Challenging Get Refusal
Adina Sash, known as Flatbush Girl, uses her internet influence to spotlight and pressure men refusing to grant Jewish divorces. These men, known as ‘get refusers,’ can trap Orthodox women in unwanted marriages.
Campaign Against Get Refuser Raphi Stein
Recently, Sash was alerted to a man using the pseudonym Nathan Gettisberg during a podcast discussion on Jewish divorce. He was identified as Raphi Stein, involved in a contentious separation without granting a get to his wife.
Recognizing this case, Adina’s social media strategy was to call out the podcast network and gather intel from her followers. Her approach didn’t involve direct contact with the parties but mobilizing public opinion.
Advocacy and Fundraising Efforts
Though Adeena Kohn, Stein’s wife, wanted privacy, this didn’t deter Sash. With a history of supporting agunot and sometimes monetizing her efforts, she opted to crowdsource funding to continue the campaign independently.
Sash’s actions illustrate her commitment to freeing Orthodox women from marital constraints through public advocacy and community involvement.
