New York Knicks Begin Roster Changes After Championship Win

The New York Knicks are undergoing significant changes after winning their first championship in 53 years. The team managed to retain Jose Alvarado, but the departure of defensive standout Mitchell Robinson marked a turning point. Robinson signed a three-year contract with the Boston Celtics, prompting responses from several former teammates, including Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and OG Anunoby, who commented on his farewell Instagram post.

Robinson’s response to Anunoby, who expressed sadness with an emoji, was revealing. Robinson stated, “I tried brother I didn’t want this to happen hopefully the truth comes out at some point. I’m gonna miss you big dawg! Keep being great,” indicating that the separation was not his preference.

James Dolan, the Knicks’ owner, had previously mentioned his reluctance to exceed the NBA’s second apron of payroll, describing it as “suicidal.” This statement suggested to fans that team restructuring was imminent. Brunson is expected to recoup the substantial pay cut he accepted to assist in the championship victory.

Robinson’s pivotal moment came with an offensive rebound following a missed free throw, effectively securing the Knicks’ victory against the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals.

Drafted in the second round in 2018, Robinson experienced both highs and lows with the Knicks, recalling a challenging first season with a 17-65 record. As a champion, Robinson will now join a restructured Celtics team.
