On July 3, 2026, President Trump delivered a speech at Mount Rushmore to commence the 250th-anniversary celebrations of Independence Day. His speech focused on American culture and highlighted the threats he perceives from communist ideologies.
Speaking in front of the iconic granite carvings of past American presidents, Trump expressed concerns about what he labeled as a revival of the ‘communist menace’. He criticized those who, in his view, oppose American history, calling them ‘radicals’ and ‘extremists’.
“There is now a resurgence of the communist menace in our land, including from newcomers to our country who embrace ideas totally opposed to our way of life and our great success,” he stated. “You can be a communist, or you can be a patriot. You cannot be both.”
During the event in Keystone, South Dakota, he addressed the necessity of loving the country regardless of one’s place of birth. He argued this patriotic love is essential for those living in America.
After discussing his concerns about communism, Trump shifted to the upcoming midterm elections. He advocated for changing legislative procedures by ending the filibuster and pushing for the SAVE America Act. This act would require proof of citizenship when registering to vote, as well as a valid photo ID when casting ballots.
Trump emphasized the importance of American culture by stating, “As we march into our 250th year, incredible, beautiful year it will be, we must never forget: There is no American freedom without American culture, and there is no American founding without the American people.”
Trump praised the American spirit, asserting that Americans treasure their freedoms and independence. He described the country as having the ‘most beautiful land’ and a significant legacy.
In a related announcement, Trump said he was pardoning six individuals accused of pollution violations, claiming they were simply repairing their cars.
