US President Donald Trump is set to attend the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, beginning on Monday evening. Last year, Trump encouraged alliance members to increase their defense spending. This year, his objective is to ensure these commitments are fulfilled.
On Wednesday, Trump is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa while in Turkey. The White House announced the meetings would coincide with Kyiv’s efforts to emphasize the ongoing conflict with Moscow. Additionally, Trump has shown interest in Syria’s activities in the Middle East.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum stated that the Trump administration will not pursue new contracts for repairing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The decision comes amid questions about the project’s challenges and the use of taxpayer funds. Burgum expressed certainty that vandalism caused damage to the Reflecting Pool, while Trump alleged that repairs revealed a significant gash.
Trump recently intervened to allow US forward Folarin Balogun to play in an upcoming World Cup match. Balogun’s earlier suspension was overturned following Trump’s direct appeal to FIFA. This rare decision was met with approval from Trump and frustration from the Belgian team.
Additionally, Trump shared a manipulated image of the Obamas and Air Force One, displaying political graffiti. This action follows a history of Trump’s controversial statements and posts about the Obamas.
Trump will meet with Zelenskyy and al-Sharaa at the summit. His discussions with Zelenskyy come as Russia’s involvement in Ukraine persists. Announcing these meetings, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly highlighted that Trump would also talk with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Concluding his trip, Trump plans to give a press conference before returning to the US.
