Rahm Emanuel, the former mayor of Chicago and previous White House chief of staff, is actively considering a 2028 presidential campaign. Recently, he traveled to Israel, delivering a message aimed at altering U.S. foreign policy towards Israel.
In Tel Aviv, Emanuel will assert the need to cease unconditional American support for Israel. He insists that Israel must undertake substantial policy changes to maintain strong diplomatic ties with the U.S. His call includes allowing the possibility of Palestinian sovereignty and refraining from attempts to annex the entire West Bank.
Emanuel criticizes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s approach, alleging his government leads Israel into strategic isolation. He describes Netanyahu’s reliance on military solutions to security issues as ineffective. Emanuel comments, ‘Strategic isolation cannot ensure security. It’s merely a ticking clock.’
As U.S. support for Israel dwindles, particularly within the Democratic Party, Emanuel seeks a balanced path between opposing political stances. His efforts highlight the urgency for a revised U.S. foreign policy framework regarding Israel.
