Migrant Arrested in Jordan in Connection with American Woman’s Death in Ireland

A recent arrest in Jordan has captured the attention of both Irish and international media. A migrant, identified as a ‘person of interest’ by Irish police, was detained by Jordan’s Public Security Directorate within the past 48 hours. This arrest follows the murder investigation of an American woman in Ireland. Irish authorities have yet to reveal the man’s identity or confirm whether he is the individual of interest in their investigation. They also clarified that no request for his arrest was made by Irish officials. The arrest took place after the suspect reportedly returned to Jordan, coinciding with the ongoing Garda murder investigation, as reported by the Irish Mirror.

Jamey Carney, an American citizen and native of New York, was found deceased in her Killarney home. Reports indicate that she died from suffocation after sustaining head injuries. Killarney is a popular tourist destination in County Kerry. Investigators suggest that Carney was killed on a Monday night and discovered the following day by her 13-year-old daughter. The suspect reportedly traveled to Dublin and flew to Istanbul soon after the murder, according to the Irish Independent.

The investigation has widened, spanning multiple countries, including Turkey, Ireland, and now Jordan. The man suspected in this case originally arrived in Ireland in 2024, amidst an increase in illegal immigration. He was involved in the hospitality and construction industries and had developed a relationship with Carney, as noted by the Irish Independent.

Despite the significant developments, Irish police have not yet provided public identification details for the suspect. This approach has faced criticism from former FBI agents and Irish politicians. Since Carney was an American citizen, Interpol’s involvement has led the case to be monitored by the U.S. National Central Bureau. The FBI has indicated their readiness to support Irish authorities through established channels.

Reports from the Irish Mirror highlight that the suspect had been denied asylum in Ireland but remained in the country while appealing this decision. He later traveled from the United Kingdom through Northern Ireland before settling in County Kerry. Although multiple Irish media outlets have identified the suspect, official confirmation regarding his identity and immigration status remains pending.
