Former President Joseph R. Biden Jr. announced the release of his memoir, “Promise Me, America,” set for November 17. The book will detail the significant events during his presidency, including his response to the coronavirus pandemic, economic policies, and the conflicts in Afghanistan and Ukraine. Additionally, Biden aims to discuss his efforts in “restoring democracy” following the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
The memoir promises insights into Biden’s critical decision-making during his term. He emphasized his most pivotal choice: whether to seek re-election or step aside. “Most of all, it’s about my faith in the promise of America,” he stated, highlighting themes of hope and national potential.
Biden, now 83, has remained relatively private since leaving office 18 months ago. However, his family has stayed in the public eye. His wife, Jill Biden, recently published her memoir, and his son, Hunter Biden, actively defends their legacy on social media and podcasts.
The existence of “Promise Me, America” was first hinted at during a stop on Jill Biden’s book tour. Biden mentioned a planned September release, surprising many Democrats who wish to distance the party from the former president during the midterm elections.
Biden ended his re-election campaign two years ago after a downturn in poll numbers following a poor debate performance. His decision to run again was a subject of debate within the Democratic Party, as many voters expressed preferences for younger leadership.
The memoir’s title nods to Biden’s previous work, “Promise Me, Dad,” which focused on his relationship with his late son, Beau Biden. In a recent video message, Biden disclosed personal challenges, including a cancer diagnosis for which he received treatment.
