ICE Officer Involved in Fatal Shooting Faces Allegations of Racism and Violence

An officer from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is under scrutiny after allegedly fatally shooting Joan DurĂ¡n Guerrero, a Colombian man, in Maine. Reports from those close to the officer depict a history of violence and racism.

Ashley Brouillette identified her ex-husband, David Brouillette, as the officer involved in the incident in Biddeford, Maine. She discovered his involvement when David contacted her, requesting her to speak positively about his character, which she refused.

ICE has neither confirmed nor denied Brouillette’s involvement. An ICE spokesperson stated that the officer in question has nearly ten years of federal law enforcement experience. Scott Collins, a former friend, testified in a divorce case that Brouillette had a history of aggression and racist behavior.

Ashley Brouillette shared instances of domestic violence during their marriage, including a serious threat involving a firearm. Despite an absence of police reports, she admitted to retracting her claims in the past out of fear and dependency.

She retained a threatening voicemail from David, revealing his hostile threats towards her and her family. Efforts to address his mental health issues, including diagnoses of bipolar disorder and borderline schizophrenia, were dismissed in the past.

Ashley also recalled an incident involving child protective services after David threw their daughter through a glass coffee table. Another court filing described an episode where Brouillette was stripped of his firearms due to aggressive behavior towards his daughter.

In response to the recent shooting, Ashley is advocating for greater awareness of mental health and violence, hoping to prevent future tragedies.
