The excitement surrounding the All-Star festivities in Philadelphia offers a preview of what is coming for the Chicago Cubs in less than a year. On Friday, the Cubs revealed the official logo for the 2027 MLB All-Star Game, scheduled for July 13 at Wrigley Field. This Midsummer Classic will be the fourth held at Wrigley, a distinction shared only by Cleveland’s Municipal Stadium and New York’s old Yankee Stadium.
Major League Baseball designed the All-Star Game logo in collaboration with the Cubs, featuring Wrigley’s iconic marquee and incorporating the six-point star from the Chicago flag. Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong unveiled the logo during a ceremony at Wrigley Field, marking a significant moment in preparation for the upcoming event.
Crane Kenney, president of baseball operations for the Cubs, absorbed the festive atmosphere of events, including Philadelphia’s fan village. He noted the increased attention to detail due to the Cubs’ hosting duties next year. Kenney’s insights from attending the 2025 All-Star Game in Atlanta also inform the Cubs’ approach to local and international fan engagement.
Kenney emphasized the complex dynamics of hosting the All-Star Game, with MLB taking charge of ticketing, activation, and logistics. The 2016 World Series and the COVID-shortened 2020 season provided the Cubs with valuable experience in handling major events.
Despite the potential impacts of a lockout due to the expiring collective bargaining agreement, Kenney stated there is no contingency plan for a disrupted All-Star Game. The Cubs are optimistic that the season will proceed without interruption.
Philadelphia’s downtown location facilitated easy access to All-Star events, contrasting with Chicago’s layout. Events will largely take place around Wrigley, with larger activities like the fan village planned downtown.
The host committee, featuring notable figures like Gov. JB Pritzker, Mayor Brandon Johnson, actor Bill Murray, and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, supports the All-Star Game’s execution. This event showcases renovations completed at Wrigley in 2021. Gallagher Way and updated clubhouses enhance the venue since hosting the World Series in 2016.
In a symbolic pregame ceremony, Cubs legends, current stars, and notable committee members participated, highlighting Wrigley’s All-Star Game history. Each base symbolized a previous All-Star Game, with Crow-Armstrong representing the incoming 2027 event at home plate.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred acknowledged Chicago’s baseball legacy, noting the city’s vibrant culture and passionate fan base as ideal for the 2027 Midsummer Classic. The event promises to celebrate Chicago’s love for baseball and its historic ballpark.
