Trial of Massachusetts Mother Accused of Killing Children

Lindsay Clancy, a mother from Massachusetts, faces trial for allegedly killing her three children.

The trial will begin this week at Plymouth Superior Court. Jury selection is set for Monday morning.

Patrick Clancy, Lindsay’s husband, plans to testify in her defense. He, along with Lindsay, claims that misdiagnosis and overmedication by doctors led her to hallucinate and hear voices urging her to harm her children.

The children, Cora (5), Dawson (3), and Callan (8 months), were strangled in January 2023.

Allegations of Medical Mismanagement

Lindsay Clancy, a former nurse, has filed a lawsuit accusing medical professionals of malpractice and negligence. The suit claims they failed to recognize her worsening symptoms of postpartum psychosis.

The lawsuit provides a narrative of medical failures that allegedly led to the tragedy. It alleges that Clancy showed signs of hypomania and severe anxiety, depression, exhaustion, and insomnia after childbirth.

The complaint reports that she sought psychiatric help in September 2022. However, the treatment allegedly included a regimen of medications that aggravated her condition.

Timeline of Events

Lindsay Clancy did everything a mother in her situation could do.

Clancy sought help, visiting emergency rooms and checking into hospitals. Despite these efforts, her symptoms reportedly spiraled.

The lawsuit alleges that she faced mismanagement, with providers failing to communicate and coordinate her care effectively, worsening her condition.

By late 2022, after starting medications like Remeron and Seroquel, Clancy allegedly experienced dissociation and suicidal ideation.

Her husband reported in December 2022 that Lindsay was hearing voices, contributing to her deteriorating mental state.

The complaint mentions that on Jan. 16, she heard voices commanding her to harm her children.

By Jan. 23, Dr. Jennifer Tufts reportedly increased her dosage of Amitriptyline. The following day, Lindsay allegedly entered a dissociative state and attempted to take her own life, culminating in the tragic events at their home.

Aftermath and Legal Proceedings

Cora and Dawson died on the day of the incident, and Callan passed away three days later.

Lindsay Clancy was charged with murder and pleaded not guilty. The lawsuit seeks damages for her injuries and trauma, as well as medical expenses and other losses.

The trial is set to begin with jury selection on Monday.
