Conor McGregor Reveals Knee Injury from UFC 329 Match Against Max Holloway

Conor McGregor’s Knee Injury at UFC 329

Conor McGregor disclosed the specifics of his right knee injury, which he suffered during his brief return to the UFC octagon on July 11 in Las Vegas. McGregor faced Max Holloway in the UFC 329 welterweight fight, experiencing a technical knockout. He later shared, ‘It was quite shocking’ upon learning about the injury.

McGregor posted on X: “Update: it was ACL and meniscus.”

In a surprising coincidence, McGregor confirmed that the injury was to the same spot as in his first fight against Holloway, with the difference being that it affected the opposite leg. He fought Holloway over a decade ago, before he achieved global fame in mixed martial arts. Despite the setback, McGregor remains optimistic about his recovery.

Recovery and Outlook

McGregor expressed confidence in his comeback, stating, “With today’s regenerative medicine advancements and improved training methods, returning by next summer is well within my realm.” He added that he is currently walking without using crutches and has been able to use leg extension machines without issue. He is disciplined and dedicated to maintaining this positive trajectory post-bout.

McGregor conveyed his gratitude: “I believe I was saved from something worse. Thank you, God! On we go, no sad stories.”

The injury occurred when McGregor attempted a jumping roundhouse kick, landing awkwardly on the canvas and clutching his knee. Holloway took advantage of the situation, although McGregor managed to evade serious hits from Holloway. Referee Mike Beltran stopped the fight seconds into the first round, granting Holloway the win.

Emotional Reaction

Following the match, McGregor candidly shared his emotions on X, expressing frustration: “My head gasket is gone. Destroyed.” Despite entering the fight injury-free, and having practiced kicks during training and backstage, the incident blindsided him. Pre-fight footage showed McGregor rehearsing his kicks successfully. His current UFC career record stands at 22-7.

McGregor is determined not to conclude his fighting career under these circumstances, seeking recovery and a return to the octagon. For more sports news, follow Fox News Digital’s coverage and subscribe to their newsletter. Report by Scott Thompson, Fox News Digital sports writer.
