Chicago’s Beloved Dinner Show Returns

After a 31-year run as Chicago’s longest-running audience-interactive dinner theater show, ‘Tommy Gun’s Garage’ became a victim of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Pat Pohrte, a Munster High School graduate and former cast member, is determined to keep the Roaring 20s tradition alive. Supported by show’s creators Larry and Sandy Mangen, Pohrte and business partner Mark Virkler launched a new version of the speakeasy-themed dinner show.

Now called ‘Vito’s Vault,’ it operates in the Jefferson Park neighborhood at 5901 W. Lawrence Ave. Guests enjoy a 90-minute comedy musical revue with audience interaction along with a three-course meal for $80. Pohrte will bring the show to Northwest Indiana for one night, offering a $25 admission show at Beatniks on Conkey in Hammond. Themed mocktails are available for purchase.

‘Kitchen Nightmares’ Episode Features Local Steakhouse

‘Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares’ spotlighted Freddy’s Steakhouse of Hammond. Owners Jim and Tammy experienced a tough portrayal, but remain proud of their restaurant. They acknowledge challenges like staffing and overhead, emphasizing their dedication to quality meals and fair pricing. The steakhouse’s response to the episode revealed the reality of restaurant operations and expressed gratitude towards their community.

Valparaiso Resident’s Moment on ‘Jeopardy!’

Grace Biermann, a 27-year-old from Valparaiso, appeared on ‘Jeopardy!’ on July 21 and 22. She won her first episode by correctly answering the Final Jeopardy question related to the Cuban Missile Crisis, totaling $32,000. Despite a strong start, Ryan Dean defeated her the next day. Biermann recently worked as a library science instructor at Valparaiso University.
