Trump Praises Shohei Ohtani in Dodgers White House Visit

President Donald Trump recently highlighted the incredible achievements of Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani, likening him to the legendary Babe Ruth. The Dodgers visited the White House during an off-day on their East Coast road trip.

During the ceremony, Trump recognized Ohtani’s exceptional feats in Major League Baseball. “The 2025 Dodger season was one for the record books in 150 years of Major League Baseball,” he stated. Ohtani, an international legend, remains the only player to earn more than one unanimous league MVP.

In 2025, Ohtani set a franchise record of 55 home runs, achieving his third consecutive unanimous league MVP. “He’s amazing,” said Trump, emphasizing Ohtani’s dual prowess as both a pitcher and a hitter, a combination rivaled only by Babe Ruth.

Ohtani’s career soared during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. He tallied 99 home runs and led the National League with a 1.025 OPS in this period. Despite not pitching in 2024 due to elbow surgery, Ohtani returned in 2025 with a remarkable 2.87 ERA and 11.9 strikeouts per nine innings, a figure previously leading the American League in 2022.

Known as the “Japanese Babe Ruth,” Ohtani is unmatched in MLB history, achieving over 300 plate appearances and over 40 innings pitched in six separate seasons. In contrast, Ruth only achieved this twice and did not match Ohtani’s versatility.

Trump also recalled the historical trade of Babe Ruth from the Boston Red Sox to the New York Yankees, which he deemed the worst in sports history. This is due to the Red Sox receiving a 36-year-old third baseman and $100,000 in exchange for the 19-year-old Ruth.

Currently, Ohtani maintains impressive statistics in the ongoing season. As a hitter, he boasts a .283 average with 22 home runs, 60 RBIs, and six stolen bases in 94 games. As a pitcher, he holds an 8-2 record and a 1.79 ERA in 14 starts, despite missing a recent start due to a knee issue.

Ohtani aims to lead the Dodgers to a third consecutive World Series title as the second half of the season unfolds.
