Michigan authorities have identified the parents found dead alongside their six children in a burning home in Grand Haven Township. This event is under investigation as a murder-suicide. Eight people, including six children, were discovered dead inside the residence on Friday following a house fire. Each of the victims had gunshot wounds.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office identified the adults as Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, and Amanda Karolkiewicz, 39. The children were not named but included four boys aged 15, 12, 11, and 5, as well as two girls, both aged 11. Two of the children were adopted.
The sheriff’s office suspects Kristopher Karolkiewicz, the father, and husband, is responsible for the murder-suicide. They stated he allegedly started the fire after committing the murders. This fire was reportedly set in various locations throughout the home.
“The cause and origin of the residential fire remains under investigation by Michigan State Police arson investigators. However, preliminary indications are that the fire was intentionally set,” the sheriff’s office reported. They further stated, “The family pets also perished due to the fire/smoke.”
Amanda Karolkiewicz had recently returned from a vacation to China with her two adopted daughters, where they visited Shanghai Disneyland, as shown on her TikTok account.
Steve Lawwill, Amanda’s stepfather, expressed his grief on social media, stating he was thankful for the happiness the family brought to his life and mentioned the immense sorrow following their loss.
Local authorities initially responded to reports of smoke in the area between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Friday but did not immediately locate the source. Around 11:45 a.m., officials arrived at the address on Riverside Trail to find white smoke emanating from the house.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that there are no additional suspects. More details are expected as the investigation continues.
