Charley Hull remains an engaging personality both on and off the golf course. As she prepares for the final major championship of the year, Hull keeps the atmosphere light, particularly at the Women’s British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club in England. During a media session, Hull recounted a memorable prank involving her long-time caddie, Adam Woodward.
Hull and Woodward have worked together for over ten years with considerable success. However, Hull’s latest prank might have tested Woodward’s patience. Hull shared how she visited a prank shop the day before and purchased a fake scratch-off lottery ticket. She handed the ticket to Woodward in the player lounge at Royal Lytham. Woodward, believing he had struck $100,000, experienced a momentary thrill.
“I went to a prank shop in Blackpool last night and got some scratch cards,” Hull recounted. “In the player lounge, I said, ‘Hey, I got some scratch cards from the shop.’ He scratched it and thought he won $100,000. He was running around saying, ‘I’m taking today off.'”
Woodward’s excitement quickly turned to disbelief, and Hull eventually had to reveal the prank. “He was sweating, he was trembling,” Hull concluded with laughter. The episode highlighted Hull’s playful nature and her good-natured relationship with her caddie. The press conference also showcased Hull’s admiration for major championships and the substantial winnings they offer.
“I’m not going to lie,” Hull admitted. “That’s why I think I play so well in the majors. Even if I’m quite a lot behind, I aim to make many birdies today for extra dollars—for me and him,” she said, reflecting on the financial incentives these tournaments provide.
Ranked seventh globally, Hull has impressive runner-up finishes in three of the five major championships. She eyes her first major title on home soil with determination and humor as key components of her journey.
