Law enforcement was alerted to Perez Hilton’s Miami home following concerns that the celebrity blogger was displaying self-harm during a TikTok livestream. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reported receiving numerous calls about the incident.
“The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls regarding an individual who was livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media,” a spokesperson stated. “Deputies quickly located the individual’s residence and spoke with family members, confirming he was alone inside.”
In situations involving mental health crises, deputies focus on diffusing tensions through communication unless there is an immediate threat. They aim to prevent escalation and avoid potential ‘suicide-by-cop’ scenarios.
Officers have tactically withdrawn while continuing support efforts with Hilton’s family. A source revealed that Hilton was placed under a psychiatric evaluation as per the Baker Act and had multiple superficial wounds.
The Baker Act in Florida allows for involuntary mental health evaluations when criteria are met. This process involves an emergency assessment that typically spans up to 72 hours.
A spokesperson for Hilton did not respond for comment. The blogger had been hospitalized earlier this year for serious sepsis linked to the flu, requiring emergency surgery.
Hilton, known as Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., gained prominence in the 2000s with his celebrity gossip site. The Miami native is a renowned figure in entertainment news and has often showcased his family life online.
Earlier, Hilton shared his hospitalization experience due to sepsis. He mentioned a profound spiritual experience with God, which he described as life-changing.
In a follow-up video, Hilton apologized for his past public mistakes, expressing regret and efforts to make amends. He discussed his renewed spiritual journey and commitment to personal growth.
Despite mixed responses, Hilton expressed gratitude for newfound support, noting a reduction in negative feedback. He emphasized the importance of present-day actions and credited God with giving him a fresh start.
