Sydney Towle, a social media content creator known for her optimism while living with a rare form of cancer, has passed away at the age of 26, as confirmed by her family. Diagnosed in August 2023 with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive bile duct cancer, Towle’s journey was chronicled through her social media presence, offering a candid look at her life.
Her brother, Austin Towle, shared on TikTok that Sydney died peacefully after nearly three years of battling the disease. He expressed pride in her relentless fight and gratitude for the support from her followers.
Towle’s mother, Elizabeth Morrow, echoed these sentiments and emphasized the lasting impact her daughter had on their lives and those who supported her. Known as “an endless ray of sunshine,” Sydney Towle was born on November 15, 1999, in Newburyport, Massachusetts, and grew up in Hobe Sound, Florida. She passed away at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
From an early age, Towle showcased her love for the outdoors through surfing and running. Her active lifestyle continued despite her cancer diagnosis at 23, which she shared openly on social media. Her followers, numbering over 1 million on TikTok alone, were inspired by her positivity, demonstrated in her messages like, “I’m in good spirits, I’m smiling. If anything, it just makes me appreciate life more.”
Towle’s content was a mix of daily life activities and the stark realities of battling cancer, blending moments of joy with hospital visits and treatments. Her mother noted Sydney’s role as a “beacon of hope” due to her transparent and uplifting online presence.
Sydney’s educational background includes a degree in government and environmental studies from Dartmouth College, obtained in 2022. Professionally, she served as a social media manager at Epic Games. Her advocacy extended beyond her personal battle. Towle raised over $10,000 for the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation and planned to run the 2026 New York City Marathon to support research and awareness efforts.
Through platforms like LinkedIn, she expressed the significance of keeping hope alive, describing it as essential in navigating her experience with cancer. Sydney Towle is survived by her mother and brother, following her father, Philip Towle’s, passing in 2016.
