Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Visits CDC, Urges Skepticism Alongside Praise

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. visited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta on Friday. The visit came on the eve of the first anniversary of a tragic shooting that deeply affected the agency’s workforce and resulted in the death of a police officer.

During his visit, Kennedy praised the dedication and efforts of CDC scientists. However, he also encouraged a more cautious approach to accepting scientific authorities.

Some scientists present found Kennedy’s commendations difficult to reconcile with his earlier criticisms of the CDC. Last year’s budget cuts to federal health departments resulted in the loss of hundreds of positions at the agency, adding to the complexity of his remarks.

Kennedy’s comments underscore the ongoing tension between public officials and scientific institutions, highlighting the need for careful consideration of health policy and communication.
