Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed concerns over a potential contract between Flock Safety and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). She emphasized that Flock Safety, a provider of automated license plate readers, no longer holds the trust of Los Angeles residents. This statement reflects broader national issues, particularly in communities with significant immigrant populations who feel targeted by federal policies.
Bass stated, “Flock Safety has lost the trust of Angelenos and residents of other cities across the country, especially in immigrant communities targeted by the federal administration.” She urged the LAPD to seek alternatives and identify another company that does not share data with external entities.
This development comes as many cities examine their relationships with technology companies managing surveillance tools amid growing privacy concerns.
