Wide receivers have been a central focus for the Kansas City Chiefs during their training camp in recent weeks. Notably, Xavier Worthy was sidelined last week due to a right shoulder sprain. Additionally, the team has been cautiously increasing Rashee Rice’s activity as he recovers from off-season knee surgery.
Cyrus Allen, a fifth-round pick, has gained attention for his performance at camp. He has reportedly developed a strong connection with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Meanwhile, Tyquan Thornton has been getting time with the first-team offense.
However, injuries have affected these players, with Worthy, Rice, Thornton, and Allen not being on the field together until recently. This changed on Monday, marking the first time in the camp that all four receivers participated in on-field activities on the same day.
Worthy was the only one who did not participate fully in 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 drills. However, there is potential for him to be cleared for complete participation in the coming days.
With the Chiefs nearing their preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday, August 15, having these key receivers back in the lineup is a vital preparation step. Patrick Mahomes, recovering from ACL and LCL surgeries, has been fully active throughout the camp. Teammates praise his return to form, highlighting similarities to his previous performances.
If Mahomes’ primary receivers are healthy for the preseason opener, the Chiefs have a solid chance to reclaim a dominant position in the AFC. This is further supported by the continued excellence of tight end Travis Kelce and anticipated improvements on the offensive line.
The remaining practices this week hold significant importance. Should Worthy return to full practice capacity, Mahomes may enter Saturday’s game against the Rams with a full roster of receivers at his disposal.
