Health officials around the world are urgently working to contain an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo that has led to over 2,000 fatalities. The World Health Organization suspects the outbreak began months before it was officially recognized.
An estimated 2,011 people have died, and there have been 4,381 confirmed cases, as reported by the Associated Press.
In June, volunteers in Bunia, a city in the Democratic Republic of Congo, were seen donning protective gear to handle the body of a three-year-old child. The child was presumed to have succumbed to Ebola, highlighting the severe impact of this outbreak on young lives.
The rapid spread and impact of the disease have alarmed health experts, who are now racing to curb its progression and prevent further loss.
