Secretary of State Marco Rubio humorously commented on Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s diet during an interview with podcast host Katie Miller. During the discussion on ‘The Katie Miller Podcast,’ Miller asked Rubio about Kennedy’s meal plan, which reportedly includes ‘red meat and fermented vegetables.’
In response, Rubio jokingly criticized the diet, pointing out its impracticality. ‘This is a crazy diet,’ he laughed. ‘This is a diet that consists of eating sauerkraut and meat. Now you understand, like, this is not a sustainable thing. He has to travel with coolers of sauerkraut! I’m not going to travel the world with a cooler full of sauerkraut. It’s ridiculous. I can’t do it.’
Although Rubio teased Kennedy’s diet, he indicated support for Kennedy’s health initiative, dubbed ‘MAHA’ or ‘Make America Healthy Again.’ His wife, Jeanette, chimed in during the podcast, teasing him about his love for sweets like Pop-Tarts. ‘No, I don’t eat Pop-Tarts every day,’ Rubio protested. But Jeanette insisted, ‘He eats all the things you should not be eating. Like every single thing.’
Rubio, never one to miss a chance for humor, praised Pop-Tarts, calling them ‘one of the great American innovations.’ Fox News Digital sought comments from the HHS secretary and Mars Inc., the producer of Pop-Tarts, but received no response.
Aside from his dietary preferences, Rubio is also a potential contender for the 2028 presidential race. In a New Hampshire poll, he was only 10 points behind Vice President JD Vance in a speculative match-up.
Beyond politics, Rubio became a viral meme sensation when a photo of him on an Oval Office couch from a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy circulated online. In an interview on Fox News’ ‘My View with Lara Trump,’ Rubio addressed the viral photo. ‘The meme thing, it was interesting because when it first came out, I hated that picture,’ he admitted. ‘Because what happened is in that couch, if you don’t have a pillow behind your back, you kind of sink. So, I looked at the picture; I said, “Oh, this is terrible,” I looked like whatever. And then it turned into this other thing. And it was fine, and it’s funny.’
Although he does not follow much of the online chatter, Rubio acknowledged seeing many versions of the meme. ‘We have a good friend here that works at the White House, Dan Scavino, made a nice board for me. And even since he made that board, we had to update it, so — of all the different pictures. So that stuff is funny,’ he said.
